Western Australia Research Advisory Committee

Background and RDE Goals:

The  Western Australian Research Advisory Committee (WA RAC), formerly the WA FRAB, is an Australian Government statutory authority that was established by the FRDC in March 2016 under the Primary Industries and Energy Research and Development Act 1989 (PIRD Act).

The committee is comprised from a membership group with expertise in wild catch (commercial and recreational), aquaculture, post-harvest and indigenous sectors along with industry representative organisations.

Under the FRDC’s RD&E plan (2015-20), the WA RAC provides greater ownership and authority to industry sectors in developing RD&E priorities for the jurisdiction of Western Australia.

The WA RAC has established the following key research goals:

  1. Continued improvement in sustainability performance for industry
  2. Encourage industries that are adaptive to social, environmental and economic circumstances and change
  3. Greater productivity and profitability
  4. Development of New Opportunities
  5. Increase recognition and benefits derived by Indigenous sector from aquatic resources
  6. Continued development in Aquaculture
  7. Increased understanding and adaptive approaches to changing climates, environmental drivers and biosecurity
