FRDC is thrilled to announce its Research Advisory Committee (RAC) Chairs who work closely with FRDC to guide critical investment for the benefit of Australia’s fishing and aquaculture sectors.  

“FRDC has been thrilled with the outcome of our RAC chair recruitment,” said Chris Izzo, Senior Research Portfolio Manager at FRDC. “The response was overwhelming, and we are excited to welcome both new and returning Chairs to lead our RAC process.”  

“Their expertise will be invaluable as FRDC continues to drive innovation in the aquatic space.” 

Brett McCallum - Chair of the Western Australia RAC

Mr Brett McCallum

Brett has over 44 years of experience in the commercial fishing, pearling, and aquaculture industries and he's held senior managerial positions with several leading Australian fishing companies as well as a current role as a Commissioner for the Australian Fisheries Management Authority. Brett has represented the commercial fishing industry in several state and federal Government working groups and committees and his expertise covers commercial fisheries management, government policy setting, and natural resource management. As testament to his experience, Brett was inducted into the National Seafood Industry Hall of Fame in 2022 for his services to the industry. He has a strong belief in inclusiveness and actively encourages younger people in the industry to take on leadership roles. 

 

Steve Kennelly - Chair of the South Australia RAC

Mr Toby AbbottSteve has a PhD and a DSc in marine science underpinning his 37 years of experience in fisheries research and management in Australia and internationally. He has published hundreds of papers and reports, and served on various scientific, advisory and editorial boards, been part of conference committees as well as received several awards and honours throughout his career. After a lengthy career in fisheries, he would like to give something back to the sector.

 

Tracey Bradley - Chair of the Victoria RAC

Mrs Tracey BradleyServing on two Boards focused on veterinary practice and finance, Tracey prioritises effective governance and funding efficiency. Since 2007, she has built a solid foundation in aquatic animal health and biosecurity. She maintains positive relationships with the Victorian seafood sector via her work developing educational materials. Tracey collaborates with governments and various aquaculture sectors and engages with the Victorian Fisheries Authority on wild and recreational issues.  

 

Heidi Mumme - Chair of the Tasmania RAC and Northern Territory RAC

Mrs Heidi MummeCurrently the Chair of TAS and VIC RACs, Heidi has a BSc, MAppSci, PhD in pearl oyster physiology, and has completed the AICD NFP governance fundamentals course.

Heidi's strong people management skills help her ensure that everyone's voice is heard in group settings. Her strong people management skills and deep understanding of the seafood sector are well-suited to continuing to lead the TASRAC, as well as taking on a secondary role of leading the NTRAC. 

 

Cathy Dichmont - Chair of the Commonwealth RAC, New South Wales RAC and Queensland RAC

Mrs Cathy DichmontCathy has chaired various committees including FRDCs QLD, NT, and Commonwealth RACs. These RAC's have addressed complex and at time, sensitive issues. She is an active scientist solving complex issues and has worked overseas for QLD and for the CSIRO. She now runs her own science consulting business.  

 

 

FRDC is confident that these Chairs will make significant contributions to the RACs and help deliver positive outcomes for our stakeholders.
