FEEDBACK/STORY SUGGESTIONS FRDC +61 2 6122 2100 frdc@frdc.com.au

The 2020 Cairns cohort of the National Seafood Industry Leadership Program (NSILP) was able to recently graduate in Canberra in a face-to-face ceremony, after being delayed by Covid.

NSILP is an initiative of FRDC and the only leadership program created specifically for the Australian seafood industry. FRDC has been funding NSILP on behalf of the Australian Government since 2000. The program is delivered by Jill Briggs at Affectus.

Support for NSILP is part of FRDC’s broader commitment to developing the people who will take Indigenous, commercial and recreational fishing and aquaculture into the future.

The vision for the 2020 NSILP program was “Australian seafood, the choice for everyone’s future” and the mission was “Empower people to make choices that benefit the Australian seafood industry, community and environmental sustainability”.

As part of the ceremony, fishing and aquaculture stakeholders saw leadership in action as each graduate gave a presentation on the vision and mission

Before the graduation ceremony, FRDC staff met with the group to provide an update on FRDC research and development. This was praised by the group and lead to very positive and constructive discussions.

One of the strengths of NSILP is the diversity of its participants and this was reflected in the 2020 Cairns cohort. They were drawn from across Australia with representatives from businesses, industry organisations and government agencies, encompassing

Indigenous, commercial and recreational fishing and aquaculture.
