Fish and Chip day and it celebrates one of the world’s favourite fast foods, the humble fish and chips.

Friday is historically one day Australians often share fish and chips with the family. So it is fitting that International Fish and Chips Day falls on a Friday.

When we Mullet over, Aussies have had a long and loyal love affair with their fish and chips so much so that the world record for the most fish and chips sold in one day was set in Melbourne Australia in 1996 and is still the world record today.

In 2018 the Fisheries Research Development Corporation will again be continuing the search for Australia’s best batter, crumb and grilled fish and crispiest, creamiest chips with the national competition set to kick off on 1 August 2018 with the national winner being announced in October.

The Awards are designed to celebrate all the local heroes, who support our seafood Industry, the mum and dad fish shops in our backyard.

"It is important to recognise the success stories in our seafood industry and the hard work of our fishers who bring food to our table" said, Senator Anne Ruston, who will be again the official patron of the National Fish and Chips awards 2018.

The majority of the Australian fishing and potato sectors are made up of mum dad small businesses that are vital to our regional communities.
