FRDC welcomes the Hon Julie Collins MP and Senator the Hon Anthony Chisholm to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio.
FRDC congratulates the Hon Julie Collins MP Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and Senator the Hon Anthony Chisholm Assistant Minister, who were sworn in recently by Her Excellency the Hon Sam Mostyn, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia at Government House.'
In accepting her role, the Hon Minister Collins said she was pleased to take on this new responsibility.
“I welcome the great honour to serve as the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in the Albanese Labor Government and thank the Prime Minister for this new challenge,” said Minister Collins.
“Agriculture plays a vital role in our country, and our national economy continues to rely on a strong and diverse sector.”
In congratulating the Hon Min Collins on her promotion to this vital portfolio, Dr Hone noted that Tasmania punches above its weight in fishing and aquaculture.
"With over 30% of Australia’s farmed and wild caught seafood harvested out of Tasmania and more than 3,500 Tasmanians directly employed within the seafood sector. Having been the former Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Minister Collins already has a good understanding of the importance our sectors play in both state and national economies, and the benefits marine and inland waters deliver to the general public from an Indigenous and recreational perspective. I look forward to working with Minister Collins to discuss the science that helps shape our sectors for generations to come,” Dr Hone concluded.
Dr Hone also welcomed Queensland Senator the Hon Anthony Chisholm to the new position of Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
“Fishing is important to Queenslanders with strong participation in Indigenous, recreational angling, commercial fishing and aquaculture. FRDC congratulates Senator Chisholm and looks forward to working with him in his new role,” he said.
Dr Hone also thanked Senator the Hon Murray Watt, who has been promoted to Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations for his oversight of the portfolio. “FRDC sincerely thanks Senator Watt for his guidance, knowledge and support over the past two years," said Dr Hone.
