The search is on for Australia’s best fish and chips… will South Australia win?

7 September 2018

Every Australian town and city boasts a fish and chips shop. But who has the best? With only a week left to vote for Australia’s best fish and chips the competition is heating up.

Senator Anne Ruston today called for South Australians to get online and vote for their favourite fish and chips at an event at the multi-award winning The Stunned Mullet – Henley Beach.

Senator Ruston said all states are well represented and competition is fierce! So far over sixty fish and chip shops have been nominated and voted for across South Australia alone.

“All Australians have an opinion and favourite, we just want them to tell us and vote!” Said Peter Horvat, FRDC General Manager for Communication, Trade and Marketing. “Voting for the awards began across all states and territories on 1 August 2018 and finishes on 15 September. So time is running out.”

Peter Horvat says consumers should ask their shops where the fish comes from and how best to cook it. After all, the ability to provide accurate information to buyers is one of the judging criteria for the awards.

The Stunned Mullet was last year’s Ministers choice winner, who not only serves great fish and chips but is a good example of a fish and chips shop that uses local, clearly labelled seafood.
