The Tasmanian Salmonid Growers Association Ltd (TSGA) is Tasmania’s peak body representing growers. TSGA works for its members under an Industry/Government partnership to ensure sustainable operation and regulation of the industry.

Industry Partnership Agreement
The FRDC is a key partner for planning and investment in the research, development extension needed to achieve its vision. TSGA works closely with the FRDC and research providers to focus resources into the RD&E needed to address current priority investment areas. RD&E investment planning and project realisation is undertaken through a collaborative process between TSGA members and research providers, with priorities developed and agreed at Annual General Meetings (AGM) and half yearly conferences.
Research, Development and Extension Plan
Strategic areas of RD&E and associated priorities for the Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon Farming industry can be categorised into the following:
Sustainable expansion of the industry (this involves environmental monitoring and management:
- research into technologies required to operate in more exposed and potential deeper areas, as well as associated on shore technology to support this as well;
- government and community engagement;
- Broadscale ecological information and monitoring.
More efficient production:
- Fish health and welfare – including vaccine developments undertaken at the Australian Aquatic Animal Health and Vaccine Centre at Mt Pleasant;
- Predation and interactions with other wildlife;
- Increased survival;
- Increased growth rates;
- Improved feeds (both for fish nutrition and sustainability implications);
- Automation/skilled workforce;
- People development;
- Waste management.

Call for Applications
The FRDC invests through a flexible approach. Part of this approach allows the Research Advisory Committees (RACs), Industry Partnership Agreements (IPAs) and Subprograms to call for applications based on their priorities up to three times per year – see whether this IPA has put forward any priorities in the current call for applications.
